Can black people be racist?

Racism, some may say, has always been part of the American society. Recently, there has been an unceasing debate on whether or not black people can be perceived as racist. To satisfy my curiosity, I decided to take an informal poll.
Do you believe that black people can or cannot be racist?

The popular response was that black people could be prejudice but that racism required a position of power to be effective and oppressive so no black people cannot be racist.
Let's think about this response:
Does one need a position of power to be racist? No.
Is power a prerequisite to racism? No.
So tell me how can a whole RACE exempted from the notion of racism?

Racism- a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.

At the end of the day racism is separate from power and corruption.
My ultimate is that yes a government can be corrupted but that certainly does not mean that all corrupted officials are racist. Anybody belonging to a race can be racist. Some officials might be racist but that still does not mean that they all are.
One notion that I can not seem to understand with the notion of black racism is the entitlement idea behind it. They do not necessarily believe that they are better but they believe that the other race is worse, but by logic if one is worse then the other is better. If a race believes that they are better than the other race, regardless of the reason, that constitute the requirement for racism.
I do recognize slavery, segregation, and many more... Yes at some point you were oppressed and there were laws that specifically addressed you but those laws are no more.

"If you look for the bad in people expecting to find it, you surely will"
-Abraham Lincoln

If someone is constantly looking at racism for the cause of an issue, then that is all they are going to conceive. At the end of the day, no one can teach you anything that you are not ready to learn.
I'm certainly not saying that racism does not still exist or that it is not still a problem in our society today but sometimes I wish that the people in our society looked more objectively at a situation before going to racism as the cause.
Because let's face it: most officials are goal driven which can make them evil, power hungry, or greedy. My thing is that why do people look past that sometimes? Why do they automatically go to racism? So they can't just be evil? Why does that judgment precede their thoughts?

If I were to address "Institutionalized racism", I don't believe that there is such a thing. Although, I do believe in corruption and influence but these notions are not inter-dependable. But then that's my opinion.

Institutionalized racism- governmental organizations, schools, banks, and courts of law — giving negative treatment to a group of people based on their race.

In the constitution, the 13th and 14th amendment are one of many laws that worked towards ending racism. The 13th amendment ended slavery by law and the 14th amendment ended slavery by principle. The voting rights acts prohibits racial discrimination, which was removed by the Supreme Court and added as the 15th amendment. Although there are more laws against racism, these are some of the iconic laws.
So no, I don't believe in institutionalized racism. Laws no longer discriminate based on race. Corruption still exist but that is a separate issue on its own.

When all is said and done, the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit  of Happiness includes the right to be a racist person, as long as you do not prevent others from working, voting, basically as long as you do not take away someone else's right.

You have the right to have idiotic beliefs and when you express those beliefs they are subject to the public humiliation of being known as an idiot. I am writing this knowing that. So by all means.

One last thing that I have observed is that some people use racism as a shield. Others use racism so carelessly that it has actually hindered this community from pushing the boundaries of the status quo then it has actually aided them.
For example, a black person may tend to only really associate with other black people and clubs. I mean don not get me wrong, be proud of your lineage, but sometimes I notice people that are so set on the black community that they shut out the rest of the world and in result they miss out on so many opportunities. At some point, you have to be able to put racism aside to move forward. And don't even get me started on those double standards. Like really?
But then again, this is just another person's opinion.

  2. nice explanation. i have experienced racism from other black people firsthand. it was so surprising and. at the same time very hurtful cause they're suppose to be like me and understand me. to give a bit more background, i am currently volunteering in an african country and identify myself as haitian American. and I've been made fun of because of my shade and treated rudely in front of other foreigners because I'm "too black" to be American.
